Bonanza Slot - Real Money & Demo Play

Step into the gold mine with Bonanza Megaways, the iconic slot from Big Time Gaming that helped bring the Megaways mechanic into the spotlight. With changing reel heights, cascading wins and a Free Spins feature built around the word G.O.L.D., this mining-themed classic gives every spin a different arrangement to explore.

Set against a backdrop of hills, waterfalls and a busy gold mine, Bonanza keeps its theme simple while letting the gameplay do the talking. Colourful card symbols sit alongside precious gemstones, while mining carts above the reels add extra symbols to the action. If you're browsing online slots at BetWright, Bonanza is a well-known title that combines a distinctive layout with several ways to form winning combinations.

Quick Facts

Visuals & Vibes

Bonanza takes you into a gold mine surrounded by rolling hills and waterfalls, with a small hut tucked into the landscape. The symbols follow the theme without making things too complicated: coloured card ranks provide the lower-paying symbols, while emeralds, sapphires, rubies and amethysts bring a splash of colour to the reels.

Mining carts run above the central reels, adding an extra row of symbols to the action. The music and sound effects give the game its own personality, while the familiar mining setting keeps everything tied to the hunt for gold.

How to Play Bonanza Megaways

The aim is to land matching symbols across adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel. The number of visible symbols changes between spins, so the layout and possible combinations aren't fixed.

1. Choose your stake: Set a stake that suits your budget before spinning.
2. Check the reel layout: Each spin can show a different number of symbols on the six reels.
3. Look for winning combinations: Matching symbols can form wins across adjacent reels, starting from the left.
4. Watch the Reactions: Winning symbols disappear and new symbols fall into the gaps, potentially creating further wins.
5. Look for G.O.L.D. Scatters: Collect the required Scatter symbols to trigger the Free Spins feature.

How the Megaways Mechanic Works

Megaways is the defining feature of Bonanza. Instead of showing a fixed number of symbols on every reel, the game changes the number of visible positions from spin to spin. With six reels, these changing heights can create up to 117,649 ways to win.

The number of ways is calculated by multiplying the number of visible symbol positions on each reel. When the reels show more symbols, there can be more possible combinations; when fewer symbols appear, the number of ways can decrease.

Winning combinations must begin on the leftmost reel and continue across adjacent reels. Because the reel heights change, the possible combinations vary with each spin, giving the game a different layout from one turn to the next.

Reactions & Horizontal Reels

Bonanza adds two important features to its Megaways layout.

Reactions

When a winning combination lands, the symbols involved disappear from the reels. New symbols then drop into the spaces, and the game checks for further wins. If another winning combination forms, the process repeats.

These successive wins are called Reactions. Rather than ending as soon as the first combination pays, a spin can continue producing additional wins as symbols are replaced.

Horizontal Reels

Mining carts appear above reels two to five, carrying extra symbols that can join the main grid. These horizontal reels add another symbol position to the relevant reels, creating further opportunities for combinations to form.

Wild symbols appear on the horizontal reels and can substitute for regular paying symbols. Combined with the Reactions feature, they add another element to the changing layout.

Free Spins & the G.O.L.D. Feature

Bonanza's Free Spins round builds on the Reactions mechanic with an increasing multiplier.

Collect the G, O, L and D Scatter symbols in the base game to trigger 12 Free Spins. Additional Scatters can award extra spins, and landing three Scatter symbols during the bonus round can add further Free Spins.

The feature also introduces a win multiplier that starts at x1 and increases with every Reaction. As successive winning combinations form, the multiplier can continue to rise during the round.

Because the multiplier increases through Reactions rather than resetting after each winning combination, the sequence of wins matters throughout Free Spins.

Symbols & Payouts

Bonanza's symbol set combines familiar card ranks with coloured gemstones. The card symbols range from 9 to Ace, while the premium symbols include emeralds, sapphires, rubies and amethysts.

Wild symbols can substitute for regular paying symbols and appear on the horizontal reels above reels two to five. The G.O.L.D. Scatters are used to trigger Free Spins and can also award extra spins when the relevant conditions are met.
