Back to the Mine
Fire in the Hole 2 is a direct sequel to the original Fire in the Hole, returning to the same underground world of wooden supports, mining equipment, explosives and buried treasures.
While the visual style remains familiar, No Limit City has added several new mechanics to the formula. The result is a game that should feel immediately recognisable to fans of the original while giving the reels a few more surprises to uncover.
Fire in the Hole 2 Gameplay
Playing Fire in the Hole 2 at BetWright casino is straightforward. Choose your stake, spin the reels and look for matching symbols across the active playing area.
The game starts with only three rows open. When a collapse occurs, another row becomes active, gradually expanding the grid and increasing the number of ways to win.
Winning symbols disappear before the next collapse, with symbols dropping down to fill the empty spaces. Further wins can trigger additional collapses and keep the action moving.
Symbols and Payouts
The lower-paying symbols are represented by mining-themed boxes containing the 9 through K card ranks. Six matching symbols can pay between 1x and 1.5x the bet.
The higher-paying symbols include a shovel, boots, map, bag and lantern. Six matching high-paying symbols can award between 1.75x and 7.5x the bet.
Wilds can substitute for regular paying symbols, while Scatters are used to trigger the game's bonus feature.
Collapsing Mine
The Collapsing Mine mechanic is central to Fire in the Hole 2.
Each spin begins with three active rows. When a collapse is triggered, another row becomes available, eventually taking the game up to six active rows.
Collapses can be caused by winning combinations, exploding xBomb Wilds or the Wild Mining feature. Winning symbols are removed before the next collapse, allowing symbols to fall into the empty spaces.
As the mine opens up, the number of ways to win increases from the starting 486 to as many as 46,656.
xBomb Wild Multipliers
xBomb Wilds can substitute for regular paying symbols, except Scatters.
When an xBomb Wild explodes, it removes adjacent symbols while leaving Scatters untouched. Its multiplier value is then added to the win multiplier for the following collapse.
All xBomb Wilds normally explode before the next collapse, creating opportunities for further symbol drops and wins.
Wild Mining
Wild Mining can trigger when three, four, five or six matching symbols land in a horizontal or vertical line without creating a winning combination.
The triggering symbols are removed and replaced by Wilds in the middle positions of the alignment. The number of Wilds depends on how many symbols were removed.
Other symbols above the alignment can then explode, with the resulting collapse giving you another opportunity to form a win.
Buried Features
The mine contains more than just rocks and regular symbols.
Some dirt blocks can hide Wilds, xSplit symbols or Scatters. These buried features remain inactive until the dirt block containing them is removed or affected by an xSplit.
That means a seemingly ordinary section of the grid can suddenly reveal something useful when a collapse or feature removes the surrounding dirt.
xSplit
xSplit brings another way to expand symbols across the mine.
When an xSplit lands, it splits the symbols on its row, doubling them. If a symbol is split into eight or more copies, it is instead displayed with a multiplier.
Scatters and xSplit symbols themselves cannot be split. Dirt blocks affected by the feature are removed when a collapse occurs.
Lucky Wagon Spins
Three, four or five Scatters trigger Lucky Wagon Spins, with two, three or four active rows respectively.
The round begins with three spins and resets to three whenever a Coin lands.
The top row contains different enhancers that can activate when a Coin lands beneath them:
- Coin values set the value of the triggering Coin.
- Multipliers increase the value of Coins on the reel below.
- Dynamite adds its count to the triggering Coin and sends dynamite across the reels.
- Beer can reactivate previously collected Coins.
- Dwarf collects values from the reels into the triggering Coin position.
A seventh reel can also reveal Upgrade Crystal symbols. Coins activating an enhancer on an Upgrade position can gain persistent effects for the remainder of the round.
Dynamite, Beer and Dwarf effects can become persistent, while Collect Chests can also be activated and collect values from the reel above.
xBet
The xBet feature changes how the base game plays by guaranteeing at least one Scatter on the last inactive row of each spin.
It also removes dirt positions from the base game, meaning buried features activate as soon as they reach the active reels.
The highest RTP with xBet is 96.09%.
