Which Casino Games Have the Best Odds?
Compare blackjack, baccarat, roulette and slots by house edge and RTP to find which casino games offer the strongest long-term odds.

Which casino games have the best odds?
The casino games with the best odds are usually blackjack and baccarat. Blackjack can have a house edge of about 0.5% when the table rules are favourable and every hand is played with correct basic strategy. A standard baccarat Banker bet has a house edge of about 1.06% and does not require playing decisions after the wager is placed.
European roulette follows at 2.70%. Slots, crash games and live game shows do not have one standard figure because each title or betting option can use a different return. The comparison below uses long-term house edge rather than the chance of winning one round.
Casino game or bet | Typical theoretical RTP | Typical house edge | Conditions behind the figure |
|---|---|---|---|
Blackjack | About 99.50% | About 0.50% | Correct basic strategy and favourable table rules |
Baccarat Banker bet | About 98.94% | About 1.06% | Standard commission baccarat with 5% taken from winning Banker bets |
Baccarat Player bet | About 98.76% | About 1.24% | Standard baccarat rules |
European roulette | 97.30% | 2.70% | Single-zero wheel with standard payouts |
Online slots | Shown by the individual game | 100% minus the published RTP | The selected RTP configuration and the complete paytable |
Crash games and live game shows | Shown by the individual game or bet | 100% minus the published RTP | The selected title, betting option and payout rules |
These percentages do not predict a session. A game with a 99.50% theoretical RTP can still produce a losing hand or a long losing run. The figure describes the expected return across a very large amount of play.
How should you compare casino game odds?
Casino game odds can describe the chance that a bet wins, the amount paid for a win or the expected return after both are considered. These measures should not be treated as interchangeable.
An even-money red bet on European roulette wins when the ball lands in one of 18 red pockets. Its probability of winning is 18 out of 37, or about 48.65%. A straight-up number wins only once in 37 outcomes but pays much more. Both standard bets still carry the same 2.70% house edge because their payouts are set in proportion to their probabilities.
House edge is the more useful measure when comparing different games. It is the theoretical percentage of all stakes retained by the casino over the long run. RTP presents the same calculation from the player's side.
The best RTP casino games are therefore the titles or bets with the lowest house edge under their actual rules. A large maximum payout does not make a game high RTP.
RTP = 100% minus house edge
A game with 97% RTP therefore has a 3% house edge. Across £100 of total wagering, that represents a theoretical average return of £97 and an average loss of £3. It does not mean that a £100 deposit will finish at £97. Reusing the same balance across several rounds increases the total amount wagered.
Which casino game has the best odds over time?
Blackjack generally leads the table-game comparison when correct basic strategy is applied. Baccarat comes close without asking the player to make card decisions. European roulette has a higher edge, but its standard figure stays fixed across the usual bets.
What is the blackjack house edge?
The blackjack house edge can be about 0.5%, but that number is conditional. It assumes that the player follows a basic-strategy chart built for the rules at the table. Guessing when to hit, stand, double or split can increase the edge.
Table rules also change the calculation. Check these points before choosing an online blackjack game.
- The payout for a natural blackjack
- The number of decks
- The dealer's rule on soft 17
- The permitted doubling and splitting options
- The dealer's hole-card procedure
- Any side bets added to the table
A natural paying 3:2 is more favourable than one paying 6:5. A dealer who stands on soft 17 is generally better for the player than a dealer who must hit. Side bets such as Perfect Pairs and 21+3 have their own house edges and should not be included in the base-game figure.
Basic strategy reduces avoidable errors. It offers no information about the next card and never guarantees a winning hand.
What is the baccarat house edge?
Under standard eight-deck commission rules, the Baccarat Banker bet has a house edge of about 1.06%. The Player bet is close behind at about 1.24%. This makes baccarat one of the lowest house edge casino games even though the cards are dealt under fixed rules and the player makes no hit or stand decisions.
The 5% commission on a winning Banker bet is already included in the 1.06% figure. It balances the slightly higher probability that the Banker hand wins. The commission-free label does not automatically mean better odds because no-commission versions can change the payout on particular Banker results.
Tie and pair wagers should be assessed separately. At a table paying 8:1 for a Tie, the house edge is usually above 14%. A side bet can therefore have very different maths from the Player and Banker bets available in the same live casino.
What is the roulette house edge?
Standard European roulette has a 2.70% house edge because its wheel contains 37 pockets, including one zero. American roulette adds 00 and increases the standard edge to 5.26% while keeping the usual payouts unchanged.
Some French roulette tables apply La Partage to even-money bets and return half the stake when zero wins. This cuts the edge on those bets to 1.35%. Use that figure only when the rule is explicitly listed.
The number of pockets matters more than the name or presentation of the table. Our roulette games include traditional and feature-led formats, so identify the wheel type, paytable and any multiplier rules. Feature-led versions can adjust straight-up payouts or use a separate RTP.
Covering more numbers increases the chance of receiving a payout on that spin, but the payout becomes smaller. On a standard European wheel, changing between a single number, a dozen or an even-money bet does not remove the 2.70% edge.
How do slots and other casino games compare?
Slots, crash games and live game shows have no category-wide house edge. Their rules are set title by title, and one game can contain betting options with different returns.
How does online slots RTP affect the odds?
Online slots display RTP instead of quoting a house edge. If a slot has 96% RTP, its theoretical house edge is 4%. A slot with 97% RTP has a 3% edge. The higher figure is mathematically stronger when every other condition is equal.
The RTP shown inside the selected game should take priority because the same slot can exist in more than one RTP configuration. Check the information panel and paytable before playing any of our online slots.
Volatility describes how the returns may be distributed. A high-volatility slot may produce less frequent wins with the possibility of larger payouts, while a lower-volatility game may return smaller amounts more regularly. Two slots can have the same RTP and very different volatility.
No playing system changes the programmed RTP. Altering the stake, stopping after a win or choosing a different spin pattern does not make the next random result more likely.
Do live casino games have better odds?
The live format does not improve or reduce the house edge by itself. A live European roulette game and a digital European roulette game can have the same 2.70% edge when they use the same wheel, payouts and rules. The same principle applies to blackjack and baccarat.
Speed affects total exposure rather than the return attached to each pound. A faster table can complete more rounds in an hour, so the total amount wagered can rise even when the house edge stays unchanged.
Live game shows need to be checked by betting position. Number segments, multipliers and bonus-game bets can each have different probabilities and payouts. A large possible multiplier does not prove that the overall return is higher.
Where do crash games fit?
The RTP for a crash game depends on its published rules and mathematical model. Choosing an early cash-out point can change how often a wager succeeds and the size of a winning payout, but it does not remove the game's built-in edge.
Check the RTP, automatic cash-out settings and settlement rules for the selected title in our crash games section. An earlier cash-out point may produce more frequent wins with smaller payouts. It does not prove that the expected return is higher.
Can you improve your odds in casino games?
You cannot turn a negative-expectation casino game into a guaranteed source of profit. You can avoid making the mathematical position worse by checking the rules and selecting the lower-edge option available within a game.
For blackjack, use the correct basic-strategy chart for the table rules. In baccarat, compare the Banker and Player bets before adding a Tie or pair wager. In roulette, check for a single-zero wheel. For slots, crash games and live game shows, use the RTP and paytable attached to the actual title.
The house edge applies to total wagering, so pace and session length matter. A 1% edge across £1,000 of repeated wagers represents more theoretical cost than a 3% edge across £100. A lower house edge does not cancel the risk created by playing more rounds or increasing the stake.
Our online casino groups the available games by category so you can open the relevant rules before playing. Choose a spending limit that does not depend on winning and stop when that amount or your planned session time is reached.
