The 2026 T20 World Cup preview for Betwright
India to reach the final 4Pts @4/7
England to Win the T20 World Cup 2 Pts @11/2
Sri Lanka to win Group B 1Pt @11/4
(*Odds accurate at the time of writing)
With this being the 4th T20 World cup held in less than 5 years many cricket fans and punters would be forgiven for showing little excitement. However given the ongoing boom of franchise leagues around the globe and a return to the dual hosts of Sri Lanka and India for the first time since 2016 there is plenty to get stuck into. Before we get into the good stuff it's worth touching unfortunately on the political drama that is clouding over the tournament. No Bangladesh in the event (replaced by Scotland) and Pakistan although confirming their participation will NOT play India in their Group A game. A total Farce if you ask me!
Are India value ?
It’s no real surprise to find the Co-hosts India at the top of the betting with Betwright @13/10. The 2024 winners are coming into this as hot as you can come , it would be fair to say in ODI and Test cricket there's signs of real struggle however India have been flawless in the sports shortest game. Winning 7 out of 7 on their way to the 2025 Asia Cup and more recently commanding 3-1 and 4-1 Series wins against New Zealand and South Africa.
With the bat it's all about the engine room and consistency in reaching 200+ scores on a regular basis. Suryakumar Yadav striking at 175 , Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya both going at 150+ SR too through 2025 and into 2026. Similarly with the Ball the work done by their spinners in the middle overs is what has a real impact , Chahal and Chakravarthy in overs 8-15 Average 11 & 14 Respectively. India are currently @4/7 to reach the final and arguably could be a tad shorter.
England can come out of winter smelling of Roses
The ongoing white ball tour of Sri Lanka has certainly put a smile back on my face and is a timely reminder of how talented this England side can be. When winning the T20 WC in 2022 if you had offered me @11/2 with BetWright about England winning this I’d of ripped your hand off.
Without question we have the best opening duo of any side in the world , Buttler averages 40 and Salt 34 in the IPL and have exceptional records in the subcontinent. You then throw in the fact that the mercurial Jacob Bethell notched 55 for RCB in only his 2nd innings in the Country and that the ever talented Tom Banton seems to be clicking into gear over the last 12 months in International cricket. The firepower is further emphasized by the very fact that 3 of the top 5 top scores ever in T20I cricket came in 2025 alone. A staggering 304 against SA , 248 against NZ and 236 against the Windies.
Yes , there are huge question marks surrounding the make-up of England's bowling attack. The presence of Jofra Archer is key however you feel we are a quality seamer light. Despite this purely on a price thing 11/2 is too big about England with the 9/2 about Australia and 5/1 with BetWright about South Africa not making the same appeal of England, the only other side who can match the firepower of India.
Group action to keep an eye on.
There are a number of let's call them forgone conclusions going into the first stage of this World Cup however there are some intriguing match ups where punting clues may be of help. Australia have just been smacked by Pakistan and with over 60% of their wins in T20I cricket in the last 18 months being at home I think that favourites tag to win the group is a false price. Despite not achieving the wins against England , Sri Lanka @11/4 look a bet to me. Nissanka and Mathira have the games to fire the Co-hosts into some good positions with the class option of Hasaranga to always provide a challenge 2nd time up. He's due a big run and I'll be looking to back him in Top Bowler markets throughout the early games.
In Group D expect Jonathan Trott’s impressive Afghanistan side to put up a good showing in reaching the Super 8s. They have plateaued somewhat in the last year but still remain a threat to South Africa and especially New Zealand in the groups. If they beat NZ they'll be through and that should be a cracker. Rashid Khan is often way too short for top wicket taker markets and the all rounder Omarzai can be overpriced at an average of 7/2. Look out for the young gun Atal with the bat , 436 runs in T20I in his first full year is no mean feat and perhaps one to follow against weaker opposition in Canada and the UAE.
Last but not least is the new comers Italy and County stalwart Wayne Madsen who I'm sure will become everyone's favorite other side. Their a better side than Scotland in my view and will be a value play in that group game. Likewise against Nepal and could go into the England game 2 out of 2 !
